Acupuncture Treatment

Target the root cause — not just the symptoms.

Dr. Lucy Brooks provides personalized acupuncture care for chronic pain, neuropathy, anxiety, sleep disorders, hormonal health, and more — one-on-one treatment built around your specific pattern.

The treatment

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a core component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practiced for thousands of years. It involves the gentle insertion of very thin, sterile needles at specific points on the body to promote healing, reduce pain, and restore balance.

In TCM, the body has energy pathways called meridians through which vital energy (qi) flows. When this energy is blocked or imbalanced, it leads to pain and illness. Acupuncture restores the natural flow of qi, activating the body's innate healing abilities.

From a modern scientific perspective, acupuncture stimulates nerves, muscles, and connective tissue — triggering the body's natural pain-relief response and increasing blood flow to targeted areas.

Safe & Sterile

Only sterile, single-use needles are used for every treatment. Acupuncture is extremely safe when performed by a doctoral-level professional like Dr. Lucy.

What acupuncture can address

Acupuncture doesn't treat symptoms in isolation — it treats the patterns behind them. Dr. Lucy works across a wide range of conditions, always targeting the root.

Musculoskeletal & nerve

Pain & Physical Relief

Acupuncture has strong clinical evidence for addressing pain — whether nerve-based, joint-related, or rooted in chronic tension.

  • Neuropathy, nerve pain, and tingling
  • Arthritis, joint stiffness, and inflammation
  • Back, neck, and shoulder pain

Nervous system support

Stress, Sleep & Recovery

By regulating the autonomic nervous system, acupuncture helps quiet the stress response and restore more balanced sleep and mood.

  • Chronic anxiety, worry, and burnout
  • Insomnia and non-restorative sleep
  • Fatigue and difficulty recovering

Systemic balance

Hormonal & Whole-Body Health

From women's health to men's vitality, acupuncture supports the body's regulatory systems for broader health and function.

  • Women's health and hormonal balance
  • Men's vitality and circulation support
  • Digestive health and immune function

Treatment planning

A personalized treatment approach

Every treatment at South Florida TCM begins with a thorough intake — not a form. Dr. Lucy takes the time to understand your full health picture before selecting acupoints, formulating herbal support, or adding complementary modalities.

When useful, infrared therapy may be incorporated as a supportive modality to increase circulation and deepen the acupuncture response — but it is always secondary to the core treatment strategy.

How treatment is built

01

A comprehensive intake first

Dr. Lucy begins by understanding your full health picture — your chief concerns, sleep, digestion, and underlying patterns — before selecting which points and techniques to use.

02

Targeted needle placement

Thin, sterile needles are placed at carefully selected acupoints along the body's meridian pathways. Most patients feel a subtle warmth or pressure — many fall asleep.

03

A plan that builds over time

Meaningful change comes with a series of treatments. Dr. Lucy adjusts the plan as you progress, keeping treatment targeted and effective at every stage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is acupuncture painful?
Most patients are surprised by how little they feel. Acupuncture needles are extremely thin — far finer than a hypodermic needle — and insertion typically causes only a mild pressure, warmth, or tingling sensation. Many patients fall asleep during treatment. If anything feels uncomfortable, Dr. Lucy adjusts immediately.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your condition and how long it has been present. Acute issues often respond in 4–6 sessions. Chronic conditions usually need 8–12 sessions to build lasting change. Dr. Lucy will give you a realistic timeline after your first intake — not a vague 'it depends.'
What conditions respond best to acupuncture?
Acupuncture has the strongest evidence base for chronic pain, neuropathy, headaches, anxiety, insomnia, and hormonal conditions. It is also highly effective for stress-related physical symptoms — digestive issues, tension, fatigue — where the root is nervous system dysregulation rather than structural damage.
Can I continue my current medications or treatments?
Yes. Acupuncture is integrative by design and works well alongside conventional medical treatment, physical therapy, chiropractic care, or psychiatric medication. Bring a list of current medications to your first visit so Dr. Lucy can factor them into the treatment plan.
What should I do before my first session?
Eat a light meal 1–2 hours before your appointment — not on an empty stomach. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to the arms and legs. Avoid heavy exercise or alcohol the day of treatment. Come ready to have a real conversation about your health history.
Is acupuncture covered by insurance?
Coverage varies by plan. Some insurance plans — including certain Medicare Advantage plans — now cover acupuncture for specific conditions like chronic low back pain. Call your insurer to verify. South Florida TCM can provide documentation to support reimbursement where applicable.
